With renewable production growing and markets becoming more volatile, Modity needs smart tools to manage risk. Partnering with rebase.energy has provided faster implementation, data‑driven support, and clearer visualization of weather‑related risks that strengthen their trading decisions.
Modity is a Nordic energy trader and risk manager based in Lund, Sweden. With around 50 employees and consultants, the company operates across the Nordic energy market and in Germany. Their portfolio is strongly focused on renewables such as solar, wind and hydropower, helping energy companies, producers and industrial customers manage risks while navigating the transition to a sustainable energy future.
As Modity expands its renewable portfolio, risk management becomes increasingly complex. They had long relied on meteorological forecasts, but these were not sufficiently connected to trading decisions.
Together with rebase.energy we built a stronger, more data‑driven and user‑friendly decision support system.
“We already had tools and processes in place, but together with rebase.energy we built a stronger decision support system, more data‑driven, user‑friendly, and robust. Since our portfolio reacts differently depending on weather conditions, they help us tailor the tools to fit our specific needs,” says Kruno Kuljis, Head of Analysis at Modity.
One of the most valuable contributions has been the icing forecast for wind turbines.
“The icing forecast provides a whole new level of support compared to traditional weather data. It complements our other systems, helps us visualize risks clearly, and creates real value, especially for younger traders who are building experience.”
Kruno describes the collaboration as close and dynamic.
“They listen and understand what we need, and build solutions that suit us. With rebase.energy we can develop faster than if we relied only on consultants. Their curiosity and speed make the difference, and the strong cooperation continues.”

The partnership started in 2021, when Modity was in a growth phase and needed to handle more renewables with the risks that come with them.
“Together we built a support system faster than we could have done alone. rebase.energy complemented our IT development with specialized tools that are now essential to Modity.”
Given Modity’s specialised focus on wind assets, the icing forecast tool has naturally been their primary use of the rebase.energy platform. As they expand their workflow, the platform’s visualization features present a logical next step – helping new traders build confidence and enabling the team to manage risks with even greater precision.
The collaboration behind this development has been equally important.
“They have lived up to our expectations with a fruitful collaboration across projects and conferences. Their team is responsive, turning our input into data‑driven improvements, and their speed and customer focus are things I appreciate.”
Would Kruno recommend rebase.energy to others?
“Absolutely! Their strength lies in combining market experience with technology and quickly turning customer needs into real tools. Compared to traditional weather institutes, implementation is faster and rebase.energy have a clearer understanding of what customers are asking for.”

For Modity, the partnership has not only delivered faster tools and clearer risk visualization, but also laid the foundation for continued development as renewable production grows.
