As electricity markets become more volatile, Jämtkraft is strengthening its data-driven tools. With rebase.energy, the company now has more accurate icing forecasts, quick integrations, and insights that support both trading and day-to-day operations.
Jämtkraft is an energy utility in the region of Jämtland, Sweden, producing renewable electricity from hydro, wind and solar. A large share of its generation comes from wind power, including sites in colder northern climates where icing often reduces production.
Predicting these losses has been a recurring challenge. “Our wind turbines in cold areas can lose production when ice builds up on the blades, and it has been difficult to forecast when this will happen,” says Digitalization Manager Lisa Vester.
The platform was easy to start using and the integration went fast.
This changed when Jämtkraft started working with rebase.energy in late 2024. The company chose the platform for its proven icing forecasts and its straightforward, well-documented APIs, which enabled a quick technical setup.
“The platform was easy to start using and the integration went fast,” says Lisa.
The impact has been significant. Jämtkraft’s Data Scientists now have better tools to estimate the value of forecasts, which has led to higher revenues and reduced imbalance costs. The improved information also helps the organisation respond more proactively to shifting market conditions.
“We began with a limited scope, with the option to scale up, and that worked well for us,” Lisa says.
Looking ahead, Jämtkraft plans to expand the collaboration beyond icing. “We will continue using icing forecasts, but we also want to improve wind trading and reduce imbalance costs throughout the year with rebase.energy’s wind forecasts. There is potential to use the platform more broadly going forward.”
Together, Jämtkraft and rebase.energy are strengthening the data foundation needed to navigate an increasingly unpredictable electricity market
